Organised by Jamaican jazz pianist Monty Alexander, a group of some of the region's top musicians will be exploring and celebrating the relationship between American jazz and Caribbean music with a diverse "tropical" orchestra.
The first half is set to showcase Trinidadian calypso, including the music of Lord Kitchener; the second Jamaican mento, including music from Lord Flea. In addition to Alexander on piano, Hassan Shakur will be featured on bass; Herlin Riley on drums; Carlton "Blackie" James; Pluto Shervington; Dean Fraser; David "Happy" Williams; Etienne Charles; Charles Dougherty; Clifton Anderson; Joseph Bennett; Albert Morgan; and Desi Jones.
The event is set for 7:30pm & 9:30pm on Friday 7 March & Saturday 8 March at the Allen Room of the Frederick Rose Hall at Lincoln Centre. Tickets are US$60: (212) 721-6500 or online.
